Myself Subodh Verma, currently working as Marie Curie Fellow at CEITEC Masaryk University Czech Republic. I completed my doctoral work at NIPGR, New Delhi, India, where I used integrated approaches to study chickpea seed development. Now as a postdoc, I am investigating the transcriptional regulation of auxin biosynthetic genes during embryo development in Arabidopsis, and how this mechanism is affected by high temperature.

Dear everyone! My name is Eva Maria Gomez Alvarez, I am in my second year of the Ph.D. in Agrobiodiversity in the PlantLab (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, PISA, Italy). I was born in Valencia, Spain, where I studied plant synthetic biology for several years during my bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, I am also an ex- IGEM student (ChatterPlant, 2017)! After an Erasmus internship at the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Oxford, I moved to Madrid to perform my Master’s degree in Plant Biotechnology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

I am currently working with cereals and submergence-hypoxia stress, using genetics and bioinformatics approaches. During the last years, I have been involved in projects regarding plant-microbe interaction in Arabidopsis thaliana and synthetic biology of Potyviruses. Since the beginning of my research career, I have worked with plants which I find fascinating. As a hobby, I play the flute since I was 7 years old, an activity that I love as much as I love plants.

topic! I joined officially about a month ago and my first cards are just starting to be registered, which is very exciting. All the profiles I received were nice, and reasonable and didn’t come across pushy or demanding. All recipients have been very kind in their comments even though I’m sure some of my beginner cards may not have been considered very desirable.

Namaste, I am post graduate in horticulture with a specialization in fruit science from Navsari Agricultural University, India. Currently, I am working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Horticulture, C. P. College of Agriculture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Gujarat, India. I love teaching as students keep me a keen learner by throwing their curious questions.

I am much interested in working in dryland horticulture. My post-graduation research work was on important underutilized fruit chironji (<i style=””>Buchanania <i style=””>lanzan). Right now I am working on the plant spacing effect on Phalsa (Grewia asiatica) cultivation. As I am also interested in Plant propagation, I am taking some field trials on guava multiplication through cutting. Dear all, I would love to be in any communication plant science.

Hi, I am Sibaji Sanyal, a Postdoctoral researcher from Jawaharlal Nehru University India. I am a plant Biologist and I love to understand how plants perceive stimuli. I know that plants are extremely intelligent and can store information (my own thoughts) and can respond to the known stimuli in a better way. I am currently trying to understand how the stimuli perception pathways have evolved from algae to present day plants.

Besides my research I love learning new languages and photography (just picked up the hobby). I am always up for a discussion on the future of science in general and plant science in particular. I tweet at @sibajisanyal. Feel free to engage. Prost!!!!

Your work seems to be quite interesting. Is it related to Plant memory?

Yes the Calcium signalling pathway is considered involved in plant memory (Anthony Trewavas was the main proponent of the idea).

Even I tend to believe it.

Greetings! I am Ankita Roy, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Georgia (UGA) in the United States. My Ph.D. thesis is on legume roots focussing on the morphological phenotyping of root hairs in Phaseolus vulgaris and science education. I am phenotyping the morphology of root hairs in response to nutrient stress while also studying the perception of active learning by students and the teaching assistant in an introductory biology laboratory course. Outside of my research, I am passionate about science communication and outreach. Currently, I work as a content creator for the ‘Athens Science Observer’ (ASO @UGA) and I served as the outreach coordinator of ‘Women in Science’ (WiSci @UGA) in the last academic year. I look forward to connecting with my fellow scientists here at Plantae :).

Hi everyone! I am Darwin Castillo, a passionate biologist interested in comprehending the molecular basis behind plants’ physiological mechanisms to cope with abiotic and biotic stress. I hope to generate knowledge worth of application in plant breeding through biotechnological approaches. In the last years, I have been researching the physiology and molecular biology of Cacao trees under drought and the new pathosystem Phytophthora betacei– Tree Tomato. In addition, I teach molecular biology (laboratory) to undergraduate students at Universidad de los Andes -Colombia-, where I am pursuing my master’s degree.

Besides research, I love visiting new places and shooting natural landscapes.

Greetings! I am Prakshi Aneja, a Ph.D. scholar at the National Institute of Plant Genome Research, India. Our lab focuses on the effects of environmental cues on plant development and optimizing plant developmental features for efficient photosynthesis in crop plants. The objective of my Ph.D. is to investigate the genetic basis of leaf traits determining photosynthesis in rice.

Apart from research, I am passionate about music too, and I love to play the guitar. I am an amateur photographer snapping photos of nature.

Looking forward to connecting to the scientific community to gain more insights into the current scenario of plant biology and hoping to learn a lot from this opportunity 🙂

Hi! My name is Mariana Schuster and I am a Postdoc at the Department of Plant Sciences of the University of Oxford.

I was born in Colombia, in a family of German descent, and finished studies in Biology and Botany both in Colombia and Germany. I received a PhD in plant-pathogen interactions from the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany.

During my PhD, I established the CRISPR-Cas9 system in the fungal pathogen U. maydis and used it for the study of effector gene families. In Oxford, in the Plant Chemetics lab, I currently investigate the role of cysteine proteases in immunity.

I am also an ASPB ambassador, love outreach and fight plant (and fungal) blindness every time I can!

    Hi Dear Plantae fellows,

I’m Kamal Kumar Malukani. I’m a postdoc fellow at CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad, India. I’m currently working on elucidation of rice functions contributing to tolerance against Rhizoctonia solani, the sheath blight pathogen of rice. I’m also working on various cellular pathways involved in cell wall damage-induced immunity in Arabidopsis.

During my Ph.D. I worked on the rice-Xanthomonas pathosystem. My work revealed a rice receptor that likely senses cell wall damage in rice and activates rice and Arabidopsis immunity via different pathways upon overexpression.

Apart from science, my hobbies are watching football, exploring new places (not during a pandemic), and communicating science to the general public.

I am looking forward to meeting plant scientists from diverse cultures and plant areas, learning from them, and sharing my experience.

Feel free to contact me @ @KamalMalukani

Hi everyone! I’m Shiqi Zhang, currently a USDA NIFA fellow with Dr. Maria Harrison at Boyce Thompson Institute. I’ve been working on profiling the intracellular Pi dynamics during arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis in Brachypodium distachyon. I’m using a quantitative imaging method to measure the fluorescence change of a Pi-specific sensor as a way to monitor live changes of the intracellular Pi levels. I graduated from UC Davis working with Dr. Eduardo Blumwald. During my Ph.D., I’ve also used quantitative imaging to characterize the biological function of the vacuolar Na+ (K+)/H+ exchangers in the growth and development of Arabidopsis thaliana.

Besides my research, I’m very interested in teaching. I’ve TA’ed four years during my Ph.D., and now am trying to find ways to teach as a postdoc. My career goal is to become a faculty member at a PUI so I can do interesting research with undergraduate students and teach!

Happy to meet you all! Please follow me on Twitter @ShiqiZhang186!
