With ASPB’s new term starting on October 1, we welcome members of the second Ambassador Alliance to their new positions.

Elections for Vice-Chair and Secretary took place earlier in September. Katy McIntyre, graduate student at Colorado State University, ran unopposed and was elected to the position of Vice-Chair. Asia Hightower (Wayne State University) and Shawna Rowe (Michigan State University) ran for Secretary. Asia Hightower was selected as the new Secretary with 57% of the ambassadors’ vote. As per the Alliance by-laws Sunil Kumar Kenchanmane Raju (Michigan State University) assumes the role of Chair after serving as Vice-Chair last year, Stephanie Klein (Penn State University) will serve as the Outgoing Chair, working in an advisory role, and Rishi Masalia (LeafWorks) will continue as the Liaison to the Membership Committee.

Ambassador alliance will continue to advocate for increased participation of early career researchers (ECRs) in ASPB. The Alliance will also focus on providing more professional development and leadership training to ambassadors and ECRs.

Thank you to all the Ambassadors participating in this year’s election and to all the candidates who volunteered to serve in these positions.

If you are interested in joining the Ambassadors program, a new recruitment campaign will begin later this year. Keep an eye out for emails from ASPB and updates on Plantae.
