Thank you for your question. I am a Ph.D. candidate in plant biology at the University of Georgia. I am very passionate about science communication and outreach. I have been a content creator for a local science magazine, ‘Athens Science Observer’ for the last 3 years. Last year, I served as the outreach officer for ‘Women in Science @UGA’, another non-profit organization. I organized a panel discussion with UGA graduate students (all female) for the science club at a high school in Athens. I was also invited as a panelist by the students of Duquesne University to talk about my experiences of being a woman in STEM. I hope to continue to do more such events not just in graduate school but also later wherever my career takes me.

I am Ankita Roy, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Georgia (UGA) in the United States. My Ph.D. thesis is on legume roots focussing on the morphological phenotyping of root hairs in Phaseolus vulgaris and science education. I am phenotyping the morphology of root hairs in response to nutrient stress while also studying the perception of active learning by students and the teaching assistant in an introductory biology laboratory course. Outside of my research, I am passionate about science communication and outreach. Currently, I work as a content creator for the ‘Athens Science Observer’ (ASO @UGA) and I served as the outreach coordinator of ‘Women in Science’ (WiSci @UGA) in the last academic year. I look forward to connecting with my fellow scientists here at Plantae :).
