Dr Anyela Valentina Camargo Rodrguez (AVC) Lecturer in Plant Traits Informatics at Aberystwyth University (AU). She uses computational methods to analyse the relationship genotype environment for trait prediction. AVC has used this approach to design computer vision (CV) and machine learning (ML) algorithms to identify genotypic variation across 19 Arabidopsis geographically distinct genotypes. Both methods were also used to develop a prototype of a system for the early detection of plant diseases and pests in a small number of economically important crops. AVC has also used CV to characterise the resistance of Brachypodium distachon to rice blast, comparing the method against visual disease severity assessment. The CV method provides dynamic traits that are difficult or impossible to acquire using subjective methods.
