I completed my PhD in molecular biology, working on oogenesis in Drosophila melanogaster, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997. For my postdoctoral work, in the lab of Dr. Jean Greenberg at The University of Chicago, I characterized the ACCELERATED CELL DEATH2 gene in Arabidopsis thaliana. After a brief stint at a biotechnology startup company, I joined The Plant Cell as a Science Editor in 2008. In 2009, I co-founded Plant Editors, a scientific editing service focused on plant biology.
