I am interested in studying the effector biology of fungal plant pathogens.
During my PhD at Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, Marburg I’ve been working on tumorous smut Ustilago maydis that infects maize and was involved in the characterization of an organ specific effector of this pathogen See1 that is triggering host leaf cells to initiate tumors.
Currently, as a postdoctoral scientist, at The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich I’m working on the secretome of the generalized oomycete Albugo candida and trying to identify its effector proteins that are recognized by resistance genes against Albugo. Furthermore I am interested in the functional analysis of these identified effectors and identify their interacting host targets.
